Better power conditioner?
November 7, 2006
I have a Monster Power power conditioner and would like to try to find a better one for
use with my audio system. The Monster seems to be made for home theater more so than
audio. Any suggestions?

I have heard great things about the Blue Circle Music
Bars, one of which we reviewed on GoodSound! The other unit that has a good
reputation amongst our staff is the new Shunyata Guardian. Both of these units come from
companies that primarily concentrate on music systems, so I doubt youll find
unneeded features like what you have on the Monster. Keep in mind that power products are
very system and power-quality dependant, so your success with them is largely determined
by what is coming out of the wall and the types of components youll be feeding. Good
luck.
Will Bose work?
November 3, 2006
I just bought a Pioneer 7.1-channel home-theater box
without speakers. I have a pair of Bose 301s and a pair of Bose 501s bought in 1981. Will
these speakers work for a surround-sound system?

Sure they will, and Id suggest you give them a try.
If you like em you could always pick up a single on eBay to run as a center-channel.
In the meantime you could listen to a few speakers around town and see if something sounds
appreciably better than what you have. If you hear something better, you may want to plunk
down some cash for an upgrade -- or the Bose speakers might just be the thing for you.
